A new lagoon at Ruku Samay, created by Život Postaru and Agustín Grefa

Thanks to you and Agustín Grefa, a lagoon has been created near Ruku Samay. The aim was to provide a clean, uncontaminated source of water for local animals, which had no access to water because of the contaminated river. Today, thanks to the volunteers who planted new medicinal plants and trees around the lagoon last year, in 2025, the place is growing over again and a jungle and natural ecosystem are taking shape. The lagoon is connected to a clean stream that flows into Ruku Samay from the rainforest. We still need to wait a while before we can introduce fish, especially local endemic species and piranhas. For now, birds are gathering here, mainly herons and other water birds, and one unique species has arrived: the hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin). It is a rare species and we are very happy that it has settled here. Three caimans have also come and made the lagoon their home. Thanks to you, this place is becoming a refuge for many animals that lost their homes in the surrounding nature because of gold mining. Thank you all very much for your help and for contributing to the protection of the local rainforest.
